JOHN LOCK, SR.

​

When John Lock was born in 1827 in Dublin, Georgia, his mother, Betsey, was 32. He had five sons and five daughters with Loucie Jane Day (born in 1836 in Virginia). He then married Eviline Miller and they had one daughter together. He died on September 21, 1898, in Georgia at the age of 71, and was buried in Whitehead, Georgia.

The 1870 census places John Lock in Dublin, Laurens County, Georgia as head of household. He was 43 years old, a farm laborer, had a personal estate valued at $100.00, and could not read or write. Living with John and his family, was his daughter Queen's future husband,George Kinchen.

Loucie Jane died in May of 1876.

 

On November 24, 1877,  John then married Eviline Miller. They had one child together, Eviline, born in 1879.

The 1880 census places John and his family living next door to his daughter-in-law, Fortune's (Ennis' wife) parents, 65 year old Joe Day and 54 year old Lili Day. In addition to his wife and children, John had his widowed 85 year old mother from South Carolina, living with him. Also listed is a 19 year old servant, Sarrah Mittie (listed as his daughter) and a 7 year old girl named Augusta Miller (listed as his daughter). Their true relationship to John and/ or Eviline is unknown, as are their whereabouts after this census. Eviline and Eviline Lock's whereabouts after this census is also unknown.

John died at the age of 71, and was buried on September 21, 1898 in the Whitehead Chapel Cemetary.
